Stability and Performance Analysis of HIPERLAN

چکیده
This paper thoroughly analyses the HIPERLAN MAC protocol, which is a standard for Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs) defined by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI). Since the HIPERLAN MAC protocol belongs to the class of Carrier Sensing Multiple Access with Collision Avoidance (CSMA/CA), in the first part of the paper we analyze the HIPERLAN stability problem. In the second part we present an in depth performance analysis, by simulation, of the HIPERLAN MAC protocol. The analysis is performed by considering data traffic patterns (hereafter advanced data traffic) which have a very similar shape to traffic generated by WWW applications. Furthermore, in the analysis we consider Poissonian data traffic too. Our conclusion is that the HIPERLAN MAC protocol performs satisfactorily, although performance measures with advanced traffic are worse than the corresponding performance measures with Poissonian traffic. Furthermore, we broadened our analysis to include the influence of the packet lifetime and channel access priority mechanism on the performance measures provided by HIPERLAN.

Evaluating Performance of the HIPERLAN CAC Layer Protocol for Asynchronous Traffic
The growing interest in wireless systems and networks has led to the first Wireless LAN (WLAN) protocols. The Medium Access Control (MAC) layer protocols of such protocol suites are of key importance. The Radio Equipment and Systems (RES) Technical Committee of the European Telecommunications Standards Institute has proposed the High PErformance Radio LAN (HIPERLAN) protocol suite. In this pape...
متن کاملBlock Turbo Codes for Hiperlan/2 Systems: Performance Analysis
In this paper, Block Turbo Codes (BTC), that is product codes obtained from the concatenation of either two extended or two expurgated BCH codes are evaluated for the HIPERLAN/2 system. Simulations show that only expurgated BTC outperforms the performance of the Convolutional Code (CC) specified in the standard. This result is surprising since expurgated and extended BTC have same performance o...

Standards for broadband wireless multimedia communications in the 5 GHz band have being developed in Europe as well as in the US and Japan. HiperLAN/2 is a radio based local area networking solution that is intended for connecting mobile users with the backbone network wirelessly. HiperLAN/2 is being developed by ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute). This paper will present Hi...
متن کاملHIPERLAN System Performance Under DCA and FCA
HIPERLAN is a high speed wireless LAN standard recently adopted by ETSI. It operates in 150 MHz of spectrum in the 5 GHz band, with up to five TDD channels provided for duplex data transmission at up to 23.5 Mb/s. This paper shows that in the presence of cochannel cells and full link utilisation, HIPERLAN performs poorly when using its DCA–type Clear Channel Assessment (CCA) scheme, and that th...

The investigations on U-slot loaded and V-slot loaded proximity coupled microstrip antennas are reported. The performances of two antennas are investigated in frequency band of high performance wireless local area network (HIPERLAN/2) using IE3D software and the computed results are verified by measurement. Results show that the antennas have wide bandwidth and moderate gain and may be used as ...
